Mr. Mark Sullivan is the Chief of the NSA Chief Information Security Office.  Mr. Sullivan leads an extraordinary team of technical and administrative professionals to drive a holistic, cohesive and robust information security program across the NSA Global Enterprise.

Mr. Sullivan is a proud graduate of University of Maryland Clark School of Engineering and holds both a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering & Critical Infrastructure, and a Master of Science in Cybersecurity & Information Assurance.  Additionally, Mr. Sullivan is a registered Maryland Professional Engineer (PE), providing independent consulting services to small business clients. 

Mr. Sullivan’s career includes federal, civilian and academic experience while living in both the United States and the United Kingdom. An employee of NSA since 2008, Mr. Sullivan has previously served as a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) engineer, program manager, Base operations director, and cybersecurity operations lead. 

Mr. Sullivan is also a graduate of the NSA Senior Technical Development Program, a highly focused immersion style research program specializing in emerging technologies and areas of key interest.  Mr. Sullivan’s program focused on cybersecurity protections of programmable logic controllers (PLCs), a critical component of commercial automation systems.

Prior to NSA, Mr. Sullivan spent over a decade as the Engineering and operations lead for Siemens Building Technologies, Washington D.C.  His role encompassed overseeing strategic cybersecurity and operational efforts to protect control systems and operational technologies (OT) which enable U.S. Government, commercial, and private critical infrastructure.

When time allows, Mr. Sullivan supports ongoing research efforts into advanced heat transfer technologies at the University of Maryland, as well as critical infrastructure modeling at various Government research facilities.  His research has led to breakthrough enhancements in data center performance efficiency as well as improved system resiliency. 

Mr. Sullivan currently resides in Linthicum, Maryland and enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons while cheering on his Maryland Terrapins.  Go Terps!
