Rachel Grunspan has worn many hats in her 25+ years in the Intelligence Community (IC), including game and simulation designer, cyber-threat analyst, and executive manager. She currently leads the DDI Futures effort in CIA’s Directorate of Digital Innovation (DDI). Earlier assignments included Intelligence Community Director for AIM (Augmenting Intelligence Using Machines), charged with enabling efforts to integrate artificial intelligence into the IC as well as Dean for CIA’s Digital University. Rachel has dedicated her career to exploring and connecting future technology landscapes with practical mission needs. This includes leading dozens of future-focused “What If” simulations across government, academia, and industry to include speaking to its importance in venues such as the Iron Butterfly Podcast and a South-By-Southwest (SXSW) Interactive to discuss how CIA uses games. She was the co-author (nee Hanig) of the winning 2007 ODNI Galileo Award paper “A National Security Simulations Center”, as well as a recipient of The Presidential Rank Award. Rachel is also the co-author of “The Computer Book: From the Abacus to Artificial Intelligence – 250 Milestones in the History of Computer Science.”
