Episode One of The Future of the IC Workforce campaign, "Risks & Benefits of Remote Work," aired live on Tuesday, February 23. The 45-minute conversation, between former NSA Executive Director Harry Coker, Jr., Avantus Federal CEO Andy Maner, and moderator Lindy Kyzer from ClearanceJobs.com addressed the risks and benefits of remote work.

Although they brought different perspectives, both speakers were under the same impression: the pandemic has inspired innovation. Traditional workplace paradigms have shifted to remote work practices, which are looking to be more permanent than the community originally thought. Remote work introduces new vulnerabilities, but the national security workforce has found ways to manage risk, capitalize on flexible work schedules, and remain efficient and effective.

The success of remote work initiatives is contingent on strong and agile leadership. Government and industry leaders must maintain contact with the workforce, solicit their feedback, and promote their wellness during this difficult period.

The speakers both agreed that success will also require collaboration between the public and private sectors. "It's not a competition, but we need to complement each other," urged Harry Coker., Jr. in his closing remarks.
